Dominican art gallery "Lyle O. Reitzel Arte Contemporáneo", founded in Santo Domingo in 1995 and with almost three decades in the local and international scene, has been selected for the third time to represent the Dominican Republic at the prestigious Contemporary Art Fair "Zona Maco 2022", to be held between February 9 and 13 at the Citibanamex Center in Mexico City.
For the first time Lyle O. Reitzel will present two simultaneous exhibitions: In the Main Section a solo show of the fantastic Spanish duo "Los Bravú", whose art is a constant reformulation of the academic resources of Renaissance and Baroque painting, worked from an ironic gaze that puts the eye on the social and cultural peripheries. Through images loaded with mannerisms, they generate a strongly narrative pictorial language. A game through the portrait that turns the every day into mythical. The 'Zona Maco Sur' section exhibits the works of Dominican master José García Cordero and Cuban-born icon José Bedia in dialogue under the curatorship of renowned Portuguese expert Luiza Texeira.

In the words of José Bedia: "In a parallel trend within my work, I have found myself interested in genre painting, in this case specifically in battle paintings. I express myself in visual metaphors, transcendental moments of a historical nature. The black and white images allude to the past and the recurrent use of excessive force where the destinies of humanity are decided. I incorporate in this case a dreamlike element, the presence of spirits as witnesses who try to intervene in these avatars. Something like collecting the memory and manipulating it at the same time."

While García Cordero inserts himself inside the social tragedy: "Painting this ÓPERA NERA aborts a rage, a resentment, powerlessness. When I finish it, when I think I have achieved it, I go back to sleep peacefully. Something in me calms down, it is real therapy, it is a daily catharsis. When I contemplate it, already out of me, it produces a healthy fear in me, it activates my vagal system... It is my best defensive weapon.

La galería dominicana Lyle O. Reitzel Arte Contemporáneo, fundada en Santo Domingo en 1995 y con casi 3 décadas en la escena local e internacional, ha sido seleccionada por tercera vez para representar a la República Dominicana en la prestigiosa feria de Arte Contemporáneo “Zona Maco 2022”, a celebrarse entre el 9 y el 13 de Febrero en el Centro Citibanamex en la Ciudad de México.
Por primera vez Lyle O. Reitzel presentará dos exposiciones simultáneas: En la Sección General un solo show del fantástico dúo español “Los Bravú”, cuyo arte es una constante reformulación de los recursos academicistas de la pintura Renacentista y Barroca, trabajados desde una mirada irónica que pone el ojo en las periferias tanto sociales como culturales. A través de imágenes cargadas de costumbrismo, generan un lenguaje pictórico fuertemente narrativo. Un juego a través del retrato que convierte lo cotidiano en mítico. En la sección ‘Zona Maco Sur’ exhibe las obras del maestro dominicano José García Cordero y el ícono de origen cubano, José Bedia, en un diálogo, bajo la curaduría de la reconocida experta de Portugal, Luiza Texeira.
Según las palabras de José Bedia: “En una tendencia paralela dentro de mi trabajo, me he encontrado interesado por la pintura de género, en este caso específicamente por las pinturas de batallas. Me expreso en metáforas visuales, momentos trascendentales de índole histórica. Las imágenes en blanco y negro hacen alusión al pasado y al uso recurrente de fuerza excesiva donde se dirimen los destinos de la humanidad. Incorporo en este caso un elemento onírico, la presencia de espíritus como testigos que pretenden intervenir en estos avatares. Algo así como recoger la memoria y manipularla a la misma vez”
Mientras García Cordero se inserta en el interior de la tragedia social : “Pintar esta ÓPERA NERA aborta una rabia, un rencor, una impotencia. Cuando la termino, cuando creo que lo he logrado, vuelvo a dormir sosegadamente. Algo en mi se apacigua, es una real terapia, es una catarsis cotidiana. Al contemplarlo, ya fuera de mí, me produce un espanto saludable, activa mi sistema vagal... Es mi mejor arma defensiva”
