Volta NY 2016

The exhibition aims to engage in a visual conversation between two artists from the Caribbean, both of Dominican descent and of the same generation. The artists, Scherezade García and Raúl Recio, allure in an open and provocative dialogue about their identity, roots and the social-political issues that surround them.
Scherezade García (b.1966) speaks from the most dominican city after Santo Domingo, New York. She delves into the themes of migration, her voluntary exile, her floating universe and her visual world inspired by the original site of the american experience: the Caribbean and the relationship with New York city. A seductive political strategy of color, lines and energy leads to deep conversation.
Raúl Recio, (b.1965) our infant terrible, embarks on conversation from the city of Santo Domingo. Recio paints tropical landscapes that hide dark surprises: tales of drug trafficking, corruption, prostitution and power emerge from the shadows like goths to embrace us. These visual narratives are told with irony and sarcasm in his irreverent discourse.
